The Alps and Isola Bella |
Nov 1st is a public holiday in most of our Europeans countries. As I didn't want to stay home, I laid my favorite map on the floor and checked out a day-trip destination within max 1h30 of train journey. The last call has been Stresa, Lago Maggiore. I had discovered that peaceful stop while travelling to Switzerland a month ago. You can either travel with the EC for Switzerland (slightly more expensive and it requires a booking but faster) or the regional train (6eur, 1h30 to Porta Garibaldi, 1h to Rho Fiera).

C'est l'automne! |
It was a great idea and I really enjoyed the sun, the lake, the autumn colors and the random walk up the hill.
Lake Maggiore is a large lake located on the south side of the Alps. It is the second largest of Italy and largest of southern Switzerland. Lake Maggiore is the most westerly of the three great prealpine lakes of Italy, it extends for about 70 km between Locarno and Arona.
The climate is mild in both summer and winter, producing Mediterranean vegetation, with beautiful gardens growing rare and exotic plants. Well-known gardens include those of the Isola Madre, Isola Bella and the Isole di Brissago, that of the Villa Taranto in Verbania, and the Alpinia botanical garden above Stresa. in Wikipedia
