The challenge was "Could you please find me bottled cherries?"
Mission impossible???
We are in Rome. March 2010. deadline in 5 days.
I first checked the local supermarkets. Nothing... italians don't eat conserved fruits. You can maybe find fruit salad, ananas or pears (not even peaches - NdA pour faire des pêches au thon :( . What about cherries?
I was more thinking about germans or nothern european countries. But it was not quite that... A rumanian friend told me that I should try the polish shop. So I asked my colleague if she could drop me off in Acilia (a suburb of Rome, 45 mins away from home, but don't worry I know the area as it is were is my church). I finally found a small busy shop held by two indians/bengalis (?) selling exoctic food and eastern european products... among all these shambles I could even get 3 jars of cherries in two varieties!

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED.

Suddenly after six months spent in Rome I decided that it was now time to personalize my room. I went to MAS (magazzini allo statuto). It's the oldest department store in Rome and is located on Piazza Vittorio Emanuele. Special... because it's a little bit old fashioned with the so many vendors dressed with these red overalls, nuns buying fabric, piles of not so good quality household linen or dump bins "tutto 1 EUR". I noticed than even if located in the China Town, it sells mainly "made in italy" goods.
But the great thing about MAS is that in this labyrinth you can find gems... because they also sell the destocks of big brands for almost nothing... you just need to have the right size ;) Today I found none of the articles I wanted and was a bit disappointed and ready to go as I had seen nothing really interesting when I discovered a collection of swimming suits from a well known italian brand ( & I urgently need to buy one as I'm going to the aquapark tomorrow and I forgot my swimming suit in Budapest the other day...)! And this was a super great deal, better than sales: 93% off! 3 EUR instead of 49 EUR!!! so I got two of them a blue and a fluo green ;)

Last Nomadic Stop
You don't need to wait for the telegram...
Courrier Sud.

Inspiration (2): Impalas
An impala is a medium-sized African antelope. The name impala comes from the Zulu language meaning "gazelle".
Impala range between 73 and 92 cm (29 and 36 in) tall. Average mass for a male impala is 46 to 76 kg (100 to 170 lb), while females weigh about 35 to 50 kg (77 to 110 lb). They are normally reddish-brown in color (hence the Afrikaans name of "Rooibok"), have lighter flanks and white underbellies with a characteristic "M" marking on the rear. Impalas are an ecotone species living in light woodland with little undergrowth and grassland of low to medium height. They have an irregular distribution due to dependence on free water, soils with good drainage with firm footing and moderate or less slope. While they are usually close to water in the dry season, they can go weeks without drinking when they have access to green vegetation.
Impalas are adaptable foragers. They usually switch between grazing and browsing depending on the season. During wet seasons when grasses are green and growing they graze. During dry seasons it browses foliage, shoots, forbs and seeds. It can also adapt to different habitats by being a grazer in one habitat a browser in another. Leopards, cheetahs, lions and wild dogs prey on impala.
