Fireworks new year Holland

New Year celebrations in the Netherlands are quite special... People buy there own fireworks light them at midnight. It's quite impressive because assortements contain up to 500g of powder. Of course it seems funnier to throw them on pedestrians, explode shop-windows or damage cars! In our area there were a 50t storage place + 30t warehouse.

Here are interesting abstracts of a dutch newspaper about the events:
"Every New Year, the amount of damage caused by seriously big fireworks goes up. Last year's damage is estimated by insurers to top 4 million euros. In total, 22 schools were burned down and 1,100 people were injured."

"The public prosecution department estimates that between 1 and 2 million kg of illegal fireworks are let off in the Netherlands every year."

"One of the problems with detecting fireworks is that Chinese products are sometimes labled and shipped as light explosives, when they are in fact much heavier. And, inspectors say, some of the Netherlands' legal importers also bring in wrongly-classified fireworks as a side line. They don't go to the tightly controlled legal firework outlets, but disappear into the illegal circuit."

"A 16-year-old boy from Oosterhout was found with 250 kg in his bedroom."
